Brighton from Preston

BPC00497

(this is a very small original imagesee note on image sizes)

Steel engraving by T Jeavons after Richard Henry Nibbs. Published by W Grant, News Agent, 5 Castle Square, c1850.

The Images of Brighton (860) entry is the larger size: this smaller size of 60 by 94 mm is not listed. St. Peter’s Church is in the distance, and in front of the church is the Lewes and Hastings Viaduct going over the Preston Road. The position of the Preston Road can be seen in the larger arch, near the middle of the viaduct. Above and beyond the viaduct, the large building must be Nibbs’ attempt to portray the engine sheds to the north of the station.
