Steel engraving by Newman & Co, Watling Street, London c1845 from an original drawing by John Bruce. The Gloucester Hotel sign has the owner as Maxfield, who bought the hotel at auction in 1839.

This is the same view as BPC00449, the larger aquatint engraving by Bruce of 1839. In the distance are good views of the Albion and Royal York Hotels, and the Town Hall to the right.
