The Pavilion

BPC00305

Aquatint engraving published by W H Mason, 81 King’s Road, Brighton and included in his Fashionable Handbook for Visitors, 1841/42. Paper watermarked ‘J. Whatman 1840’. There is much aquatint shading missing on this plate, in the grass foreground and in the sky. The fine sharp lines in the plate indicate that the missing aquatint has not worn away, rather this is an early experimental pull from the plate, before the further aquatint engraving had been cut.
