Steel engraving first published by J Smith, King’s Road, Brighton c1840. This edition published by Reeves & Hoare, London. The Gloucester Hotel was built in 1819 and sold by William Brierly to Mr Maxfield in 1839. In an auction catalogue, this print was described as ‘a flyer’ from Mr Maxfield, and described as being ‘included in some Victorian Brighton guidebooks’. The British Museum has a copy catalogued as a trade card.
