The Old Steyne, Brighton

Lithographed by A Wallis after the drawing by F W Woledge and included in the artist’s 1843 publication Six Brighton Views. Arthur Wallis advertised himself as a ‘Printing, bookselling and stationery establishment – letter-press, lithography and copper-plate printing is executed on the premises, etc. etc’.

St Peter’s Church is in the distance, and just to the right, jutting out into the Steyne, are the four houses known as the Blue and Buffs, lodging houses built c1780.
