BPC00336
Aquatint engraving by and after William Daniell, published by the artist in his major work, one of the finest series of English colour plate books, the Voyage Round Great Britain, which contained over 300 plates in eight volumes. This print was published in 1823. This was the last major nationwide tour by an artist before photography took over from pencil and brush.
Notice how the shadows are incorrect, depicted as if the sun is shining from due north, and the title is incorrectly engraved as ‘Regent’s Square’ rather than ‘Regency Square’.
