BPC00316
Lithograph after F W Woledge, published by J Smith, Pool Valley 1843.
Shown is the south front of the York Hotel, the original site of Richard Scrase’s Manor House, and in the middle distance is the Old Bun Shop. Pool Valley is noted as that part of the old town which suffered most severely in storms. The flood of January 1795, the result of melting snow and rain, was recorded as over seven feet deep, then in 1850 the great summer thunder and rain storm of that July was the subject of a number of dramatic prints, showing Pool Valley in deep flood water. This 1850 flood is the subject of BPC00317 and BPC00318.
