Copperplate stipple engraving, c1820, produced for a Tunbridge Ware box. No artist or engraver known. There are very few topographical engravings using the stipple process – it was used more in portraiture.
This image was drawn before the Chain Pier was built in 1823. In the middle distance, left of centre, is Russell House which was pulled down c1824, having spent several years in a state of disrepair. The Albion Hotel now takes this site.
